Our Sacred Origin

The Night of the Dropped Lasagna

In the spring of 1987, our Founder, Brother Dale, was carrying a freshly baked lasagna across his kitchen when the sky split open with the loudest thunderclap in the recorded history of his cul-de-sac.

The lasagna hit the floor. In the ringing silence that followed, Dale heard a voice. It said, clearly and with great authority: “Dale. The lasagna.”

It was his wife. But Dale knew the Thunder had spoken through her. He has been listening ever since, and so, now, can you.

Doctrine

The Seven Rumbles

  1. Thou shalt count.

Count the seconds between the flash and the boom, then announce the number to whoever is nearby, whether or not they asked.

  2. Thou shalt say “whoa.”

Every thunderclap deserves one “whoa.” A second “whoa” is permitted for exceptionally good ones.

  3. Thou shalt not complain.

The Thunder is never “too loud.” It is exactly as loud as it needs to be.

  4. Thou shalt worship from the window.

Stay indoors during storms. The Thunder wants an audience, not a volunteer.

  5. Thou shalt unplug thy stuff.

Not out of fear. Out of respect. Also out of fear.

  6. Thou shalt comfort all dogs.

They do not yet understand. Blankets and treats are a sacrament.

  7. Thou shalt never say “it’s just clouds bumping together.”

We know. We just don’t want to hear it.

Frequently Rumbled Questions

FAQ

Is this a real cult?

It’s a joke cult. The only thing we’ll take from you is your ability to hear thunder without saying “whoa.”

Do you worship Thor?

No. Thor has a hammer and a film franchise. We worship the noise. The noise has never needed a sequel.

What about lightning?

Lightning is Thunder’s flashy older sibling. It shows up first, takes all the photos, and is genuinely dangerous. We admire it from indoors.

What are the membership dues?

One (1) thunder impression per year, performed with feeling, in front of a witness.

Is there a secret handshake?

Yes. It ends with a very loud clap. Please warn people first.

Can I leave?

Of course, any time you like. But every time it storms… you’ll wonder.
